Texas Annual Membership and Board Meeting

1. Welcome and Introduction of Speakers
President Darryl Tocker called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. He welcomed approximately 70 attendees and reviewed the meeting agenda, which began with a special program followed by the Friends Business Meeting.
Darryl introduced Director and State Librarian Peggy Rudd, who introduced the program and speakers. Invited presenters were Dr. David Gracy, Pamela Bleisch, and Leslie Waggener. At the last minute Dr. Gracy was unable to attend the Houston gathering, and Peggy Rudd stepped in to present his part of program. Called "In the Beginning: A History of the Foundation of the State Library," it was first presented at the 2008 Texas State Historical Association annual meeting. A brief question-and-answer session followed the presentation.
Friends Business Meeting
Following the program, Darryl Tocker called the business meeting to order.
Minutes: Minutes of the April 16, 2008, Annual Membership Meeting were approved as presented.
Treasurer's Report: Darryl Tocker distributed the Statements of Financial Position ending December 31, 2008, and presented the Treasurer's Report.
Election of Board Members: The following board members and officers, whose terms expired in April, were re-elected: Darryl Tocker, President; Mickey Schott, Treasurer; Lori Brix; JoAnne Moore, and Marvin Rich.
Friends Accomplishments: Peggy Rudd reported briefly on the Friends accomplishments in the Capital Campaign for the renovation of the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building. She expressed her appreciation for Friends' fundraising efforts and its support of the Texas Reading Club Jubilee and the TSLAC Centennial events marking the 100th anniversary of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
Friends and guests ended the meeting with a Centennial birthday cake for all to share, in celebration of the 100-year history of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
The meeting adjourned at 11:55.
