Approval of Minutes
One spelling error was noticed. The minutes were approved as corrected.
Treasurer’s Report
Treasurer Mickey Schott was not present to deliver the report. Erica McKewen reported that as of Mar. 1, 2006, the group had $10,471.69 on hand.
Membership Report
President Darryl Tocker suggested the group do another membership push, perhaps a letter signed by him, along with nomination information for board membership. It was suggested the board explore some additional membership benefits, such as coupons, affiliations with museums, etc.
Newsletter Report
Diana Cox and staff from the Texas State Library have some ideas for content for the next newsletter, and are working on it.
Old Business
President Darryl Tocker updated the group on progress made on the Confederate Pension digitization project. He had approached some corporations and foundations and has received some favorable responses. We have bids from the University of North Texas and the General Land Office to scan the documents. Darryl indicated we would need to develop some forms of acknowledgment for any donors.
The Texas Stories project has received two grants thus far: a $5,000 from the Summerlee Foundation and a $6,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
New Business
Carol Roark gave an overview of the Texas Heritage Digitization Initiative. The board was genuinely excited about the purposes and potential of the THDI.
President Darryl Tocker made a proposal that the Friends provide travel stipends for librarians from small, rural libraries to attend the Loan Star Libraries formula task force. There are nine librarians on the task force that might need travel assistance. Sandy Stephens moved to provide travel stipends for librarians in small, rural libraries attending the Loan Star Libraries task force meeting in May 2006, not to exceed $3,000 total; Dianna Dorman seconded. Motion passed.
The board set the following meeting dates for future board meetings: Jul. 7, Sept. 15, Jan. 19, and Mar. 23.
With no further business, Darryl adjourned the meeting at 2:45 p.m.
