Members Present: JoAnne Moore, president; Peggy Rudd; Diana Cox, commission representative; Chris Brisack, alternate commission representative; Donald Oliver; Ramon Noches; Daryl Tocker, vice-president; Marvin Rich

Guests Present: Erica McKewen; Liz DeMoss; Martha Doty Freeman; Sandra Pickett; Kathleen Jenkins; Elizabeth Sanders; Sandra Holland

President JoAnne Moore called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m.

1. Legislative Day Reception
- JoAnne Moore expressed her concern that a co-chair was needed for the Legislative Day Reception Chair, Dianna Dorman.
- Peggy Rudd summarized the progress of the committee and future plans.
- It was recommended that the Friends pursue assistance from the Society of Southwest Archivists and the Austin Genealogical Society

2. Friends Partnership with Texas Stories
- Kathleen Jenkins of Texas Stories spoke to the group about her progress with the project.
- Texas Stories will be premiering on February 28, the week of Texas Independence Day.
- Mickey Schott distributed his comments on the legal agreement between the Friends and Texas Stories. At this point, the “agreement” would be rewritten as a “memorandum of understanding.” At this time, it does not appear that any legal arrangement will be made between the Friends and Texas Stories, but if it does become a possibility, legal documents would need to be prepared, so that both parties could act as quickly as possible.

3. Membership Renewal Forms
- The distribution of membership renewal forms was discussed and it was decided that the packets from 2003-2004 could be used. Donald Oliver and Daryl Tocker volunteered to help put these packets together.

4. Friends Newsletter
- The possibility of resurrecting the Friends newsletter was discussed. It was decided that this should be taken on as a quarterly endeavor, featuring columns from each division of TSLAC, as well as, results of the membership campaign, and a membership form.

5. Old Business
- It was confirmed that the Friends would have a presentation at the TLA Annual Conference, featuring the creators of ‘Please Pass the Biscuits, Pappy,” Bill Crawford and John Anderson.
- November 5, 2004, from 6:30-8:30, a reception will be held at the Oswald Gallery on Congress Avenue, featuring the photography of the book, ‘Please Pass the Biscuits, Pappy’ and in honor of the Friends. Staff will serve as ushers and waiters, and fruit, cheese, wine, and, of course, biscuits will be served.

6. New Business
- Plans for the reception at the Oswald Gallery were discussed. It was decided that the friends would support the purchase of wine and food, not to exceed 100.00.
- Peggy Rudd distributed a questionnaire for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The questionnaire was for ideas from state libraries and supporters of new ways for the foundation to help public libraries.

The next meeting is scheduled for January 28, 2005 at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.

President JoAnne Moore adjourned the meeting at 1:57 p.m.
