Meeting Minutes—2004

Annual Membership and Board Meeting
Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center- San Antonio

1. Welcome
Vice-President Darryl Tocker called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m. Everyone was asked to introduce themselves. Approximately 20 people attended.

2. Approval of minutes
Gleniece Robinson moved to approve the minutes from the 2003 annual membership meeting in Houston. JoAnna Lewis seconded. Motion passed.

3. Treasurer's report
Erica reported that the treasurer's report from Mickey Schott gave a balance of $12,173.98

4. News from the State Library
Peggy D. Rudd reported that the state library had undergone budget cuts: seven percent for the current year and 12.5 percent for the biennium. The state library is collecting $1.5 million in fees for TexShare, to supplement the $4 million already set aside for the purchase of TexShare database subscriptions beginning Jul. 1, 2004.

Rudd shared an idea with the group concerning Texas Library Association's Library Legislative Day in 2005. Rudd asked the Friends to consider sponsoring a legislative reception in the lobby of the Lorenzo de Zavala State Archives and Library Building, in Austin. Various ideas were given, including a flag tour of our historic flags leading up to legislative day. On legislative day, the flags would all return to Austin.

5. Accomplishments of the Friends
Vice-President Darryl Tocker outlined the following accomplishments of the Friends during the last year:
A. $1,724.76 given to the Texas Department of Transportation to jumpstart production of the Texas Reads/Libraries - License to Read specialty license plates.
B. Encumbered $2,300 to support staff travel by state library staff to important continuing education programs outside the state of Texas.
C. Completed a direct mail membership drive.
D. Assisted four small libraries in starting a local Friends group. The membership thanked Mary McAfee for her efforts in completing the membership mailing and personally assisting the four libraries wishing to start a Friends group.

6. Election of board members
The membership elected Susan Dorsey, Ramon Noches, Dianna Dorman and Donald Oliver to the board, and directed the executive committee to seek board membership acceptance from Mike Clark-Madison, Jim Bannerot, and Colette R. Knisely. The election was by ballot.

7. Adjourn and refreshments
Vice-President Darryl Tocker adjourned the meeting at 3:15 p.m.
