Friends of Libraries & Archives of Texas Annual Membership and Board Meeting
Thursday, April 3, 2003
George R. Brown Convention Center- Houston
1. Welcome and call to order
President Patrick Heath called the meeting to order at 12:20 p.m. Everyone was asked to introduce themselves. Approximately 20 people attended.
2. Approval of minutes
Marvin Rich moved to approve the minutes from the 2002 annual membership meeting in Dallas. Joanne Moore seconded. Motion passed.
3. Treasurer's report
Erica reported that the treasurer's report from Mickey Schott gave a balance of $11,277.33.
4. Election of Officers and Board members
Mary McAfee moved to elect Marvin Rich and Martha Doty Freeman to the Board, and to re-elect Harry Robinson, Darryl Tocker and Mickey Schott-all for three-year terms. Darryl Tocker seconded, and the motion passed.
The current officers were re-elected with a motion by Margie Saulsbury and seconded by Harry Robinson.
5. Legislative Report
Mary McAfee reminded the members that information was available at the exhibit booth concerning legislative issues. She shared with the group a legislative mailing that the Fort Worth Friends had undertaken.
6. Other reports
Membership: JoAnne Moore reported membership is now 86 total: 21 member libraries, 62 Texas friends, 3 out-of-state members. It was suggested that we print a membership application envelope to be sent throughout the state. Mary and Erica will determine the cost, etc. Another idea suggested was perhaps each board member could "adopt" a library system.
President Heath suggested that the next Board meeting be at the July TLA Annual Assembly in Austin. A meeting in the fall will be announced later.
7. Adjournment
A delicious box lunch was served to all who attended. The meeting adjourned at 1:05 p.m.
