The Texas Historical Preservation Endowment, launched by the Friends of Libraries & Archives of Texas in partnership with the Austin Community Foundation (ACF), establishes an ongoing source of funds to expand preservation activities at the State Archives, part of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The State Archives maintains the official history of Texas as colony, nation and state — archival government records dating to the 18th century, newspapers, journals, books, manuscripts, photographs, historical maps, and other artifacts — preserving and documenting the heritage and culture of Texas.
Contributions can be made directly to the Austin Community Foundation by credit card or by check to the Austin Community Foundation, 4315 Guadalupe, Suite 300 / Austin, TX 78751. Please specify Texas Historical Preservation Endowment.
Your contribution is fully tax-deductible.
Preservation Priorities Include:
Civil War Battle Flags, such as the Lone Star Flag of the 1st Texas Infantry, Hood's Brigade.
Vintage Ranger division negatives from the Department of Public Safety photographs collection.
Documents such as a mid-1850s manuscript of correspondence from Jacob De Cordova, land agent, mapmaker & newspaper publisher; and the 1847 Meusebach Treaty with the Comanche Nation.
Historic Texas maps spanning the early seventeenth through the late twentieth centuries.
Artifacts such as the Journeay Violin (with bow).
Your support will provide critical resources to reclaim and preserve our Texas heritage and culture.
Our fundraising goal for 2012 is $25,000. This four-year initiative will raise $100,000 to seed the endowment. The Austin Community Foundation has committed to match $1 for every $4 raised.
The Friends of Libraries & Archives of Texas advocate for and promote the services and collections of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, fundraise to expand those services and collections, foster the development of local Friends organizations in support of local libraries and archives.
